ClosedLot 1(ASN0011)A Chajli Long Rug, Southeast Caucasus
A Chajli Long Rug, Southeast Caucasus, mid 19th C, striking Chajli Caucasian rug. A weaving of this type is illustrated in Schurmann's Caucasian Rugs (plate 76) and attributed to the village of Chajli, situated in the hilly district southwest of Shemakha. The white wool in the center panel is unbleached and natural looking. The colours are all strong and beautiful. This rug was woven in the Baku region, probably in a village called Chila. The rug has that village product feel, limp but strong, supple. These rugs show a strong Turkoman connection and the octagon fills of this rug show the characteristic tausk nauskas with kochank adjoined. There appears to be a strong shamanic connection evidenced in this piece. The octagon centers have personality and the rug exudes a primitive tribalism.

Certain aspects of this rug, including the plainweave ends with decoration in extra weft wrapping, suggest that this may be the work of an Afshar group in Khorasan; the structure, an all wool foundation with reddish brown wefts and symmetric knotting, as well as the Turkmen motifs, might also indicate a West Persian -East Anatolian origin. A Kurdish Sanandaj or Sauj Bulag Carpet, Northern Persia, late 19th C, with small elongated corropolygons. An early Kurdish tribal carpet, the weaving and the wool quality of this carpet is very archaic looking and done with a very loose knot. The design of large scale stepped polygon geometric motifs helps give the carpet a unique composition and a wonderful tribal character. 7 ft 6 in by 3 ft 6 inEstimate:
₹40,000 – ₹50,000
ClosedLot 54(ASN0011)A Kurdish Sanjabi Rug

A Kurdish Sauj Bulag Rug, Northwest Persia, mid 19th C. A good and early Kurdish rug, the remarkable main border design and the irregularly drawn but powerful medachyl guards, as well as the red wefts, suggest this might be a Sauj Bulag weaving. It has a remarkably subtle yet extensive range of eleven old colours - dark, mid and light blue, mid green, pistachio green (abrash), rose red, pink red, aubergine, brown. 10 ft 3 in by 4 ft 5 inEstimate:
₹1,60,000 – ₹2,00,000
ClosedLot 56(ASN0011)A Kurdish Quchan Kilim iconography
A Kurdish Quchan Kilim iconography, mid 19th C. A rare and unusual Kurdish Rug with difficult to attribute features. An initial view based on colours may suggest a Northwest Persian origin, possibly Jaff, Kolyai or Sauj Bulag; however the structure points to a more likely Northeastern attribution, probably woven by the Kurdish tribes from the Quchan area. An obvious flat weave influenced design using a Kochanak border. Some rare Kolyai rugs, for example one in the Burns collection, has very similar handle and colour as this piece. However, the designs usually attributed to that tribe are Mina Khani. This weaver could have been a skilled traveled artist incorporating elements and designs from other tribes while most likely using her own taught traditional weaving method. The Kochanak border is clearly Azerbaijan area as seen in Afastafa region weavings. 10 ft 6 in by 5 ft 8 inEstimate:
₹5,70,000 – ₹6,50,000
