A Kurdish Sanandaj

A Kurdish Sanandaj or Sauj Bulag Carpet, Northern Persia, late 19th C, with small elongated corropolygons. An early Kurdish tribal carpet, the weaving and the wool quality of this carpet is very archaic looking and done with a very loose knot. The design of large scale stepped polygon geometric motifs helps give the carpet a unique composition and a wonderful tribal character. 7 ft 6 in by 3 ft 6 in
