A Kurdish Long Rug
ASN0011
Auction Type: live
A Kurdish Long Rug, possibly Kazak region, Southwest Caucasus, mid to late 19th C, with simplified Memling guls (named after the famous Flemish painter Hans Memling), a striking major border of quartered diamonds, and a simple trefoil outer guard meant to trick the eye and draw it closer to the main field. A handsome long rug, the style and structure seems clearly Kurdish work - compare Burns, Antique Rugs of Kurdistan for an example with a similar palette, style of drawing and minor motifs.
