A Tajik or Afghan Kilim
ASN0011
Auction Type: live
A Tajik or Afghan Kilim, Central Asian, late 19th C to early 20th C. An unusually large kilim, probably woven by the Tajik people or the tribes living in the area of Mazar-i-Shariff. This weaving symbolises modern abstraction interpreted by tribal weavers -- a very simple grid composition, each square containing four serrated cylindrical piston like icons. Grid separation lines are woven in stacked diamond beads and the overall composition is framed by an udyed brown wool perimeter.
