A Kurdish Quchan Kilim iconography

A Kurdish Quchan Kilim iconography, mid 19th C. A rare and unusual Kurdish Rug with difficult to attribute features. An initial view based on colours may suggest a Northwest Persian origin, possibly Jaff, Kolyai or Sauj Bulag; however the structure points to a more likely Northeastern attribution, probably woven by the Kurdish tribes from the Quchan area. An obvious flat weave influenced design using a Kochanak border. Some rare Kolyai rugs, for example one in the Burns collection, has very similar handle and colour as this piece. However, the designs usually attributed to that tribe are Mina Khani. This weaver could have been a skilled traveled artist incorporating elements and designs from other tribes while most likely using her own taught traditional weaving method. The Kochanak border is clearly Azerbaijan area as seen in Afastafa region weavings. 10 ft 6 in by 5 ft 8 in
