Details
A very unusual and rare Indian Colonial silver and gold gilted chandelier with eight arms and electric lights supported by four mermaids. Each with a pot on head, holding a long stem and lotus flower shaped light holders, with intricately pierced and engraved work on the petals of the flower. The central suspending rod holding the four mermaids is in the shape of a hexagonal Indian lantern dome on a round bowl styled base with floral pierced work all around. Each arm is attached to this central dome which in-turn has the back of the mermaid attached to it. Overall, a good proportionate combination of typical Indian native art transformed into an electric chandelier for the rich 'zamindars' (landlords) of western India, probably Rajasthan.
