Portfolio Of Calcutta Views A set of 19 [of 20] original albumen prints of 1860s Calcutta taken by an anonymous professional photographer showing the various landmarks of the city. Contained in original blue-cloth portfolio with title embossed on cover in gilt.
Each photograph 13.5 x 10cm
pasted on a thick card measuring 20 x 15 cm.
Of the 19 photographs 17 have long descriptive text about each monument or scene printed on paper and pasted on back. No. 18 [Post Office] and No. 19 [Great Eastern Hotel] do not have these sheets. The missing photograph is No. 8 [St Paul's Cathedral] and another International Album of Permanent Photographic Views of the Principal Buildings of the City of Calcutta; 143 x 18cm concertina album carrying 24 b&w postcard-sized photographs, no date but c. 1890s, red cloth with gilded titles.
