    A Gabbeh Luri Rug, Southwest Persia, early 20th C, with large checkerboard field in a wide range of colours, surrounded by a blue and red mountain peak border. This gabbeh (connoting unclipped in Farsi) rug from the Southwest Persian Zagros mountains area has probably been woven by the Luri tribe. 7 ft 10 in by 5 ft

    A Gabbeh Luri Rug

    A Gabbeh Luri Rug, Southwest Persia, late 19th C. A rare old southwest Persian gabbeh (Farsi word meaning unclipped) rug, most likely woven by the Luri tribe of the Zagros mountains area. Four irregular serrated edge diamond medallions comprise the central axis on a heavily abrashed indigo field, each medallion including what appears to be a large crab like element. A few scattered elements are randomly strewn on the remaining field. Three narrow borders frame the composition a mountain peak, a barber pole, and a middle border including quartered diamonds. 7 ft 2 in by 3 ft 2 in
