Modern and Contemporary Indian Art  is as eclectic and diverse as the culture and influences of the periods. The multiple styles, genres and mediums are an amazing variety. Modern Indian Art is finally getting its long overdue global recognition and even Contemporary Artists are being taken very seriously and rightly so. Looking at the increasing awareness, it is easy to understand why the market for collectors and dealers is so buoyant and it is in this very area that we wish to create a niche for ourselves as auctioneers by focusing on offering the best of the works, of the established as well  as upcoming artists, including sculptures and graphic prints.

Company School Paintings & Drawings
Company school paintings were essentially executed by native Indian artists for the market created by members of the British East India Company and others moving to settle in India. Later these early settlers were to be followed by travelers and tourists. Created in the European idiom, many were exquisitely painted, representing amongst other things, the flora and fauna of India along with the many indigenous styles of dress and costume. Almost exclusively, the medium used was watercolour, etching and lithograph, with Calcutta being one of the earliest centres for production followed by Benares, Delhi, Patna and Madras. Company school paintings and drawings have a charm of their own and is a very interesting area of art in which collectors can indulge.

Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
Collectable art books are fascinating objects that engage the mind and eye. Antiquarian books, special first editions and rare autograph editions are most sought after.
Maps are very popular decorative objects; with the added appeal that they are a view of a particular part of the world as one of our ancestors might have seen it. In recent years the interest in early maps has increased faster than in many other branches of collecting. This perhaps reflects the current enthusiasm for local history, archaeology and the history of early travel.
Prints, as collectible entities, are categorized by the technique such as engravings, lithographs, serigraphs and other limited edition folios. Prints are usually thematically classified and could come under botanical drawings, colonial landscapes or exotic Indian native types amongst a host of other subjects. Familiarity with the different techniques of print-making makes the subjects even more enjoyable.

Furniture
Furniture is by far the most popular category of antiques for and collectors and connoisseurs alike. Period furniture combines elegance with usefulness. Thus, we are seeing more and more people opting to furnish their homes in period style. We intend to offer original art-deco and colonial Burma teakwood, rosewood and mahogany bookcases, showcases, sideboards, desks, sofa’s, consoles and a host of other functional desirables that are fast depleting in supply and appreciating in value.

Glass
Contemporary glassware from designers such as Rene Lalique, Daum, Moser, WMF Ikora, Emile Galle or L.C.Tiffany are great collectables. Even the more traditional English antique glass such as Georgian glass is highly sought after.
The categories include table-ware, perfume bottles, crystals, etc. We will also ffer antiquarian oil lamps, chandeliers, table lamps and candle stands to complete the range of glass offerings.

Ceramics: Pottery & Porcelain
When it comes to pottery and porcelain, values depend less on the object than on its date and the factory that made it. Pottery and porcelain are both made from clay, but the latter is a finer product.
In most cases you can also use them, for, apart from specially made portrait figures, models of animals, plaques for wall hanging and so on, they were all made for use as well as to look nice.
We are looking at offering Sevres porcelain, Old Paris porcelain, Sitzendorf porcelain and Capodimonte porcelain amongst others.

Silver & Metals
Metals have been refined and blended to produce many different materials. However, anyone who collects objects made of the precious metal silver starts with some distinct advantages because they have intrinsic monetary value as well as antique value. The metal itself is almost indestructible, which means that there is still a lot of old silver about for collecting. We specialize in English, Scottish and Irish silverware from the Georgian, Victorian and Colonial periods.

Jewellery
Traditionally Indian jewellery was made of stone, glass and gradually refined to silver and then finally to gold. Possessing jewellery is an integral part of social fabric in India. Undoubtedly, Indian royalties were the biggest collectors of fine jewellery in the world and no jeweller of repute could ignore the appetite of these royal families for intricately designed jewellery. After the abolishment of the ‘privy purse’ in India, these fascinating pieces have, for various compulsions, been sold privately and only very rarely have come out in the open market. However, with our wide network of contacts and experience we intend to source and offer to our discerning clients a very exquisite range of these necklaces, pendant sets, rings, bracelets etc.

Rare Autograph Letters
Quality vintage autographs, notes and letters in all fields, particularly by celebrities in the political & science arenas, literature and other popular culture are prized auction items as they throw rare insights into their personal or public lives. We have been fortunate enough to come across some of these notes & letters and hope to offer them in our auctions.

Photography
Photography has now come to be recognised as a serious art form in India and collectors are increasingly beginning to appreciate the creative nuances of photographers, be it in the field of landscape, wildlife, fashion, abstract or surrealistic photography. The demand for collectable photographs, both new and old, is picking up and we look forward to conducting auctions of photographic art very soon in the near future.

Vintage Cars
Broadly defined as those cars which were made between 1919 and 1930, vintage cars are also known as classic or antique cars. There are a substantial number of these cars in India and most of them belonged to the erstwhile Maharajas, Zamindars (landlords) or patrons of the British Empire in India. Vintage Cars showcase the heritage & mechanical progress of the bygone era and are highly sought after by the motor enthusiasts of today.

Cricket Memorabilia
Being a cricket loving country, there is tremendous interest in the collection and preservation of cricket memorabilia ranging from autographed bats, balls and caps to plaques, trophies and medallions. Cricket gear of former Test players as well as current day heroes is something that will never go out of fashion in India.

Film memorabilia
Merchandising movie memorabilia has a huge potential in India considering the fact that movies are the biggest and most popular form of entertainment in the country. Signed photos and autographs are fast becoming some of the more profitable areas of investment, whether you are a private collector, a charity wishing to raise funds at auction or just somebody looking for a unique gift for a star struck friend or family. This category also includes lobby cards, posters and costumes worn by film stars. Auctioning ‘Bollywood’ merchandise is an area that we are looking forward to developing to enable fans to own a piece of their favourite stars.
