1000 Years of History
In 1914, with a meagre capital of Rs 100, Dadha & Company was started by three brothers Lakshmi Chand Dadha, Sobhag Mull Dadha and Lalchand Dadha, and in 1972, under Lalchand’s son Milapchand Dadha, the Dadhas were selected by the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) to start India’s first ever joint-sector manufacturing company Tamil Nadu Dadha Pharmaceuticals Limited (TDPL) - a tribute to the enormous contribution of the Dadhas not only in the pharma industry but also in social causes in the form of various educational, medical and cultural trusts & institutions, for over 50 years. TDPL subsequently became a part of Sun Pharmaceuticals in 1997.
Fast-forward to 2007, another trio of Dadhas, lead by Lalchand’s grandson Maher Dadha and his sons Ankush Dadha and Apoorva Dadha along with a team of renowned experts established Bid & Hammer with the objective of expanding the Indian art and auction market, and in 2013 with an exclusive auction at the historic Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur that was attended by major collectors from across the globe and also had a performance by international rock star Sting, Bid & Hammer continued to emerge as India’s Foremost Multi-Category Auction House striving to service every type of collector and was listed under the top 250 Auction Houses in Asia by Blouin Artinfo.
Though the journey has been anything but easy, overcoming hurdles and transforming them into sources of opportunities is nothing new to the clan. Thus to commemorate the family’s 100 years of enterprise, as history repeats itself, exactly in the year 2014, Bid & Hammer is re-inventing itself and starting with a renewed zeal and a slew of new and improved initiatives, for our discerning clients as well as consignors, to make the family’s transition to the next 100 years as dynamic as the last 100 years. Thus, we take this opportunity to thank you very much for your patronage and look forward to your continued support and participation in this endeavour.
"I think successfully adapting and sustaining in rapidly changing business environments, for 100 years is indeed a very proud feeling and I wish to continue building Bid & Hammer & also Dadha Bio-fuels (our greenfield bio-fuels unit set up in 2010) based on fair play and ethics whilst also endeavouring to be as culturally and socially munificent as possible, for the benefit of our clients, thus ensuring that the contribution of my family in these fields is also carried out for the next 100 years and more”
- M. Maher Dadha, Chairman & Managing Director
